You’re posting on social media. Maybe even consistently. But your phone isn’t ringing. Your DMs are quiet. And you’re starting to wonder if it’s even worth it.
It is. But only if you stop making these mistakes.
Mistake 1: Posting Without a Plan
Random posting gets random results. One day it’s a staff birthday. Next day it’s a before-and-after. Then nothing for two weeks.
Your followers can’t build a habit around inconsistency. The algorithm can’t push content it can’t predict. And you can’t measure what isn’t structured.
The Fix
Batch your content creation. Spend 2-3 hours once a month planning and creating content for the next 30 days. Use a scheduling tool like Later, Planoly, or Meta Business Suite. Post at minimum 3-4 times per week. Consistency beats perfection.
Mistake 2: No Compliance Review Process
This one can actually hurt you. Before-and-after photos without proper consent and disclaimers. Claims that promise specific results. Testimonials that sound too good to be true.
The FTC, FDA, and your state medical board all have opinions about this. And none of them are flexible.
The Fix
Create a simple approval checklist. Before any post goes live, confirm: Do we have written consent for all patient images? Are all claims qualified with language like “results may vary”? Does this comply with our state’s medical advertising rules? One team member should own this review. Every post. No exceptions.
Mistake 3: Ignoring Short-Form Video
If you’re only posting static images, you’re invisible to half your potential audience. Instagram Reels and TikTok account for the vast majority of organic reach on those platforms. Static posts get a fraction of the impressions.
We hear it all the time: “I don’t have time for video” or “I’m not comfortable on camera.” You don’t have to dance. You don’t even have to show your face every time.
The Fix
Start with three easy video formats. Treatment time-lapses (no patient faces needed). Quick provider tips in 15-30 seconds — “one thing I wish every patient knew about Botox.” Facility tours with trending audio. These don’t require editing skills or expensive equipment. A phone and good lighting are enough.
Mistake 4: No Call to Action
Your post got 200 likes. Great. How many of those people booked? If you didn’t tell them what to do next, the answer is probably zero.
Likes don’t pay rent. Bookings do.
The Fix
Every post needs a clear next step. “DM us ‘GLOW’ for our spring special pricing.” “Link in bio to book your free consultation.” “Comment ‘INFO’ and we’ll send you our treatment guide.” Make it specific. Make it easy. And track which CTAs drive the most action.
Mistake 5: Stock Photos Over Real Content
Your audience can spot a stock photo in half a second. And when they do, they scroll right past it. Generic images of models in white robes don’t build trust. They scream “we have nothing real to show you.”
The Fix
Show your actual space. Your actual team. Your actual results (with consent). Behind-the-scenes content of your practice outperforms polished stock imagery every time. It doesn’t need to be perfect. It needs to be real.
The 40/20/15/15/10 Content Mix
Here’s a framework that works for aesthetics practices. Use it to plan your monthly content.
- 40% Educational — Treatment explainers, myth-busting, skincare tips, “what to expect” posts. This builds trust and authority.
- 20% Social Proof — Before-and-afters, patient testimonials (with consent), reviews, case studies. This builds confidence.
- 15% Behind the Scenes — Team intros, day-in-the-life, facility tours, fun moments. This builds connection.
- 15% Promotional — Special offers, new treatment announcements, seasonal campaigns. This drives bookings.
- 10% Engagement — Polls, questions, “this or that,” quizzes. This drives algorithm reach.
Notice that only 15% is promotional. If your feed is all “Book now! 20% off!” you’re training your audience to ignore you.
The Bottom Line
Social media works for aesthetics practices. But it works like a system, not a slot machine. Fix these five mistakes. Use the content mix framework. Be consistent for 90 days.
You’ll see the difference in your DMs, your bookings, and your revenue.
