The 40/20/15/15/10 Content Mix

The biggest mistake medspas make on social media: 80 percent promotional, 20 percent everything else. Your audience tunes out fast.

This proven ratio builds trust, drives engagement, and quietly converts.

40% Educational
20% Promotional
15% Engagement
15% Authority
10% BTS
40%

Educational

Treatment explainers, condition education, pre and post-care, ingredient spotlights. Teach, do not sell.

20%

Promotional

Seasonal offers, treatment packages, new services, limited-time deals. Keep direct but tasteful.

15%

Engagement

Q&As, polls, behind-the-scenes asks, community involvement. Get the audience talking.

15%

Authority-Building

Provider credentials, research highlights, media features, expert opinions. Prove the why-you.

10%

Behind-the-Scenes

Team spotlights, practice culture, facility tours, day-in-the-life. Humanize the brand.

Math check If you post 5 times a week, that is roughly: 2 educational, 1 promotional, 1 engagement OR authority, 1 BTS (every other week). Simple to track.

Platform-Specific Strategies

Each platform rewards different content. Stop cross-posting the same thing everywhere.

IG

Instagram

2026 reality: Reels still rule reach. Carousels still rule saves and shares. Stories rule engagement with existing followers.

  • Reels-first strategy: 3 to 5 Reels per week. Hook in first 2 seconds. 9 to 30 seconds is the sweet spot.
  • Carousels: 7 to 10 slides. Slide 1 is the headline. Each slide has one idea. End with a clear CTA.
  • Stories: 3 to 7 per day. Use polls, quizzes, and Q&As. This is where existing patients engage.
  • Static posts: Use sparingly. Mostly for announcements, before-and-afters with consent, and team intros.
TT

TikTok

2026 reality: TikTok rewards consistency more than quality. Post daily or near-daily. Authentic beats polished.

  • Hook formulas that work: "Here is what I wish I knew before [treatment]..." / "3 things estheticians wish patients understood..." / "Why I stopped recommending [common product]..."
  • Trending formats: Day-in-the-life, treatment myth-busting, behind-the-scenes prep, voiceover explainers.
  • Compliance for short video: Disclose before-and-afters clearly with on-screen text. Add a "results not typical" caption. Never imply guaranteed outcomes.
  • Cadence: 4 to 7 posts per week minimum. Better to post a "B-plus" daily than an "A-plus" weekly.
FB

Facebook

2026 reality: Organic reach is dead unless you build community. Facebook is best for events, groups, and local trust signals.

  • Community building: A private Facebook group for VIP patients works. Use it for exclusive content, early access, and member-only Q&As.
  • Group strategy: Post 3 to 5 times per week in your group. Mix expert content with member spotlights.
  • Event promotion: Open houses, member events, and educational webinars perform well as Facebook Events.
  • Ads: Facebook ads still work for local lead-gen. Boost your top-performing organic posts.
LI

LinkedIn

2026 reality: LinkedIn is your B2B play. Practice owner networking, industry thought leadership, recruiting.

  • Thought leadership: 2 to 3 posts per week on industry trends, business lessons, and practice management.
  • Practice owner networking: Engage with other owners, suppliers, and industry consultants. Real conversations matter more than reach.
  • Recruiting: Showcase culture, team wins, and growth. Top providers look at your LinkedIn before they apply.
  • Long-form posts: 1,200 to 1,800 character posts outperform short ones. Tell a story with a clear lesson.

Compliance Guidelines for Medical Marketing on Social

Posting medical content carries legal risk. Here are the rules every aesthetic practice needs to follow.

Before-and-After Photos Get written consent before posting. Use a release form that names the platforms. Add a "results not typical" or "individual results vary" caption. Never alter photos beyond lighting and cropping. Never use stock or AI-generated images and imply they are real patients.
Testimonials Use the patient's own words. Get signed release. Disclose if there was any incentive (free treatment, discount). The FTC updated rules in 2024 β€” undisclosed incentives are now treated as deceptive.
Treatment Claims Stay inside FDA-approved indications. No "miracle," "guaranteed," or "permanent" language unless the device labeling actually says that. Avoid comparative claims unless you have head-to-head clinical data. Never claim a treatment cures a medical condition unless it is FDA-cleared for that exact use.
Influencer / KOL Disclosure Every paid partnership must be disclosed clearly. Hashtags like "#ad" or "#sponsored" must appear in the first 3 lines, not buried at the bottom. The disclosure must be in the same language as the post. Stories require their own disclosure on each frame.
AI-Generated Content Disclosure If AI generated an image that looks like a real patient, label it. If a bot is responding to comments, disclose it. If you used AI to write a testimonial-style caption, do not pass it off as a real patient quote. The FTC and state attorneys general are actively enforcing.

Implementation Tips

Batch Content Once a Month

Pick one afternoon. Shoot 8 to 12 pieces of content in 3 hours. Then schedule it out. Daily creation kills consistency.

Use a Scheduling Tool

Later, Buffer, and Sprout Social all work well for medspas. Pick one. Schedule everything 2 to 4 weeks ahead.

Research Hashtags Quarterly

Use 5 to 8 highly relevant niche hashtags, not 30 broad ones. Refresh your list every 90 days based on what is performing.

Respond Fast to Comments and DMs

The first 60 minutes after posting matter most. Have a team member assigned to respond. Engagement drives reach.

Track 3 Metrics, Not 30

Saves per post (interest indicator). Reach (algorithm signal). DMs and consult bookings (revenue indicator). Skip the vanity stuff.

One Post, Five Pieces

A 60-second Reel becomes: an Instagram post, a TikTok, a Story sequence, a LinkedIn write-up, and a blog article. Get more out of every shoot.
